In brief: Colombia-Israel FTA restored
*Israel’s foreign ministry has announced the restoration of the country’s free trade agreement (FTA) with Colombia, a year after it was terminated in October 2025 by former president Gustavo Petro (2022-2026) in protest at Israel’s military actions in Gaza. The termination was formally reversed yesterday after being agreed in a 15 July meeting between Colombia’s Foreign Minister Omar Bula and his Israeli counterpart, Gideon Sa’ar. Sa’ar yesterday hailed the improvement in bilateral ties since Colombia’s President Abelardo de la Espriella took office in August, saying that “in just two months, we have reversed most of the negative consequences of the Petro administration for Israel-Colombia relations and have even broken new ground”. Bula will attend a ceremony today (14 October) in Jerusalem to inaugurate the new Colombian embassy, which has been moved there from Tel Aviv.
