*The US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Asset Control (Ofac) has removed Venezuela’s national assembly president, Jorge Rodríguez, from its list of specially designated nationals. No explanation was provided by Ofac, but the lifting of sanctions on Rodríguez, who is the brother of President Delcy Rodríguez and her government’s chief negotiator, came at the onset of a third round of dialogue yesterday between the government and opposition, with the respective sides led by Jorge Rodríguez and Dinorah Figuera. In a social media story posted ahead of the talks, Figuera said that “political and civil guarantees” will be a focus of this round of talks. Previous rounds have produced commitments from the government to ease censorship and initiate a process of reforming the supreme court (TSJ).
