In brief: Brazil’s government opens new credit line for exporters
*Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has signed a ‘medida provisória’ (MP) decree to open a new credit line of up to R$6.49bn (US$1.29bn) for individuals and companies that export goods and provide services abroad. The credit line is part of the Lula administration’s broader ‘Brasil Soberano’ plan, a series of measures launched last year to respond to the imposition of US tariffs and which was also used earlier this year to shield Brazilian businesses from the economic impacts of the conflict in the Middle East. According to the MP, the latest credit line will be tied to the government’s ‘Fundo de Garantia à Exportação’, an export guarantee fund overseen by the finance ministry.
