COLOMBIA: Defence minister resigns
Jorge Alberto Uribe Echavarría was named Colombia's new defence
minister yesterday, 9 November, after Marta Lucía Ramírez resigned from the
position. Ramírez became the second member of President Alvaro Uribe's cabinet
to step down within a week, although unlike that of former justice and interior
minister Fernando Londoño, her departure came as something of a surprise.
