The government asked the supreme court to grant it an injunction to prevent the electoral commissioner investigating the way the presidency was spending its secret funds. The opposition parties allege that the government is using these funds to support candidates from the ruling Partido Arnulfista, and a dissident from the main opposition party, the Partido Revolucionario Democrático, in the forthcoming elections.
