COLOMBIA: Government punishes paramilitaries after kidnapping
Development: The government suspended peace talks with the
faction of the Autodefensas Unidas de Colombia that it believes was responsible
for the kidnapping of a former senator. José Eduardo Gnecco was kidnapped on 27
June along with his wife and five children while they were travelling near Santa
Marta in the northern department of Magdalena.
