GUATEMALA: Indigenous peasants announce uprising
Just as President Oscar Berger was commissioning the new auxiliary police unit drawn from among former members of the military to combat crime, peasant organisations served notice that they will be launching a national uprising to demand concrete responses to a lengthy petition submitted to the government at the end of March.
