JAMAICA: Republic status this term
Prime minister PJ Patterson has publicly committed himself to turning Jamaica into an independent republic during his current term of office. He announced this on 18 September at the conference of his People National Party's youth organisation. Details, he said, would emerge after the PNP's annual conference on 21 September.
