Former president Alberto Fujimori has formally renounced any plans to run for the presidency in Peru in the future. In late June, he announced that he would be standing for a seat in Japan's upper house elections at the end of July. Fujimori's decision will have repercussions for Peru's domestic politics although it is not yet clear whether it will complicate the extradition process if he is successful in his electoral bid.
