Brazil-Paraguay strike 'historic' Itaipú deal
Development: On 25 July Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Paraguay's President Fernando Lugo signed an agreement which will triple the amount Brazil pays Paraguay for energy from the jointly-owned Itaipú hydroelectric dam, and allow Paraguay to sell its excess energy directly to the Brazilian power market.
