US Deputy Director of Marshals Service, Brian Beckwith, arrived in Bogotá,
Colombia on 22 October for a two-day visit to discuss cooperation between the
two countries on the upcoming judicial reforms in Colombia. The US Embassy in
Bogotá stated that Beckwith will meet with the Director of National Police,
General Óscar Naranjo, and Deputy Attorney General Guillermo Mendoza to oversee
training sessions offered to security agents in the country. Around 273
Colombian agents have been trained by the US Marshals Service, and the embassy
announced that the US would continue to help strengthen the penal system in
Colombia (an initiative that began in 2005).
