Clinton woos the Hispanic vote
Hilary Clinton, a candidate for the Democratic party's presidential nomination,
promised to improve US relations with Latin America if she wins the US
presidential elections. During a rally in Las Vegas, Nevada, on 18 January,
Clinton tried to woo the Latin vote in the state of Nevada. She won the primary
on 19 January. The state has a 23% of Latin population and ranks fourth in US in
terms of Hispanic voters, after New Mexico (43%), California (35%) and Arizona
(28%). In her speech, Clinton talked about collaborating with local governments
in order to generate employment in Latin America. Clinton also reiterated her
support for Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and criticised the insufficient efforts
of the Colombian government in stopping violence against union leaders.
Concerning Cuba, Hilary said that no general changes should be made respect to
US-Cuba diplomatic relations at the moment, but that everything would depend on
developments in Cuba.
