POLITICS | Colombia’s Garzón taken off the respirator. The latest official medical update, released by the Reina Sofía clinic of Bogotá on 27 June, states that Colombia’s vice-president, Angelino Garzón, no longer needs “mechanic ventilator assistance”, “is awake” and shows signs of improvement. Garzón suffered a thrombosis on 18 June and has remained in the intensive care unit of the clinic ever since; if his recovery continues as expected, he will be transferred to a regular room over the coming days. The vice-president, however, will have to undergo “a strict and comprehensive process of rehabilitation” before being discharged and returning to his duties.
