ARGENTINA: Tetchy campaign suspended after tragedy
Campaigning for primary elections on Sunday to select candidates for October’s legislative polls was suspended on 6 August, following a gas explosion in the city of Rosario. At least 10 people were killed and another 60 were injured after a building collapsed from the force of the blast. President Cristina Fernández immediately signed a decree to declare two days of national mourning; Martín Insaurralde, top of her party list, announced his intention to suspend all closing rallies. Sergio Massa, the mayor of Tigre, and the main threat to Fernández’s Frente para la Victoria (FpV) immediately followed suit.
