COLOMBIA | Avianca makes it to NYSE. On 5 November Avianca, Colombia’s main airline, began trading in the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) for the first time. The event marked a new high on Avianca’s remarkable rise from a modest and heavily indebted enterprise into Latin America’s second largest airline. Significantly, as an article published by the Wall Street Journal to mark Avianca’s debut at the NYSE showed, the company’s rise appears to track Colombia’s own economic development in recent decades.
