HONDURAS: OAS agrees to send mission to Tegucigalpa
The Organization of American States (OAS) will send a team of foreign ministers to Honduras “as soon as possible". Its mission will be to try and persuade the de facto government of Roberto Micheletti to accept the terms of the San José Accord, drawn up by Costa Rica's President Oscar Arias, which demands the return of ousted president Manuel Zelaya to power and a political amnesty, as well as several sweeteners for Micheletti. Negotiations have ground to a halt over the last week. Micheletti is more than happy to play out time. Zelaya is trying to keep the focus of the international community on his cause. He visited Mexico this week, where he won the support of President Felipe Calderón for his peaceful return to Honduras.
