ARGENTINA: Fernández lashes out at US
President Cristina Fernández used her final address as head of state to the United Nations General Assembly to accuse the US of protecting Jaime Stiuso, a former Argentine spy chief, wanted for questioning over the mysterious death of the federal prosecutor, Alberto Nisman. “Is he here?” Fernández asked the assembly, as her speech ran over the allotted timeframe. Some reports claim that Stiuso, who served in the Argentine intelligence service from 1972 until his dismissal in late 2014, has fled to the US. Stiuso is believed to be one of the main sources in Nisman’s investigation of the bombing of the Jewish community centre (Amia) in Buenos Aires in 1994, which left 85 people dead and hundreds injured.
