TRINIDAD & TOBAGO | New PNM leader. Dr Keith Rowley officially became the new leader of the now opposition People's National Movement (PNM) on 27 June after his nomination for the post was uncontested. A political old-timer with various cabinet positions to his name (including the planning, housing and trade ministries), Rowley is an inveterate rival of his predecessor, Patrick Manning, who stepped down following the PNM's disastrous performance in last month's general elections [WR-10-]. While pledging a change in style, Rowley - who is the fourth PNM leader since the party was founded 54 years ago, and the first Tobagonian to assume the post - has said that any major restructuring of the PNM will only take place after the 26 July local government elections.
