On 8 June the Institute for Economics and Peace (IPE), an international think tank, released its Global Peace Index (GPI) 2016 report. The GPI 2016 revealed that Costa Rica was the most peaceful nation in Central America ranking 33^rd out of 163 countries, followed by Panama (45^th), Nicaragua (69^th), Honduras and El Salvador (111^th), while Guatemala came in last (117^th). The GPI is composed of 23 qualitative and quantitative indicators.
