AMERICAN REGIONAL REPORT:
ANDEAN GROUP - NOW AVAILABLE |
| Bolivian President
Carlos Mesa's honeymoon period seems to be coming to an end, despite his
year-end promises to meet the various demands of the protest movements that
led last year to the resignation of his predecessor, Gonzalo Sánchez
de Lozada. We look at the latest political and economic developments in
the landlocked country. We also consider an analysis carried out by the US-based Council on Hemispheric Affairs (Coha) on the referendum on the revocation of Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez 's mandate. Coha suggests the referendum is unlikely to solve the country's problems. Elsewhere, in Peru, conspiracy theories abound as former spy chief Vladimiro Montesinos goes on trial; Ecuador concocts Plan Colombia countermeasures, and Colombian President Alvaro Uribe takes flack over paramilitaries. An annual subscription to Latin American Regional Report: Andean Group (12 issues) is priced at US$225 (Discounted rates available to academics/NGOs).
