BRAZIL | Warning on 'hidden Amazonian agenda' of NGOs. On 9 May, General Maynard Marques Santa Rosa, secretary of policy, strategy and international affairs at the defence ministry, told the foreign affairs and defence committee of the chamber of deputies that military intelligence had detected the presence of 100,000 NGOs in the Amazonian region, and had strong suspicions that many of these groups were engaging in illegal activities.
