Weekly Report - 09 January 2020 (WR-20-01)

Jair Bolsonaro completed a year as president of Brazil on 1 January. He marked the occasion in a subdued way, merely calling for 2020 to be “a year as victorious for the Brazilian people as 2019 has been” in a tweet and promising to work “night and day, to change our nation’s destiny”. An objective observer would argue that Bolsonaro’s first year in office has delivered mixed results, with the question now being what areas the government will choose to focus on to achieve this promised change.
