One of Nicaragua’s leading opposition groups, Alianza Cívica por la Justicia y la Democracia (ACJD), has confirmed its definitive departure from the Coalición Nacional (CN), the national coalition which launched in February to challenge President Daniel Ortega and his Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional (FSLN) in the general elections in November 2021. Further compounding difficulties for the opposition, with less than a year until the vote, the government has pushed through legislation widely condemned by these groups and the international community as repressive.
