The growing list of mayors assassinated this year has led many in the media and in political circles to wonder if these crimes should be attributed not directly to the war between the drug cartels but to political agendas that use the 'narco' war as cover. The federal senate has given the notion enough credence to demand from the government all available information on the existence of 'death squads' with political connections.
