Weekly Report - 30 March 2004

The opposition Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) announced last week that it had received intelligence of a coup plot, involving members of the military and union leaders, scheduled to coincide with a 25 March demonstration organised by the umbrella labour organisation COB in La Paz. It did not materialise, but the commander of the armed forces said he, too, had knowledge of retired military officers involved in plotting a coup.
