“A meaningful step forward”. This was the response by The Netherlands’ ambassador to Central America, Christine Pirenne, to the announcement last month that two suspects had been arrested and a third might be extradited from the US in relation to the murder of four Dutch journalists in El Salvador during the 1980-1992 civil war. The breakthrough contrasts with more stops and starts in relation to efforts to seek justice for the El Mozote massacre, the worst atrocity to take place under the civil war.
