Despite both countries having left-of-centre governments, some unusual friction has developed in relations between Argentina and Chile. An open letter from the Puebla Group – an association of left-wing Latin American political leaders – was published on 15 February and has displeased the Chilean government. The letter was signed, among others, by Argentina’s President Alberto Fernández.
