Chile’s lower chamber of congress has approved a bill, designed to strengthen the military and civilian police forces, respectively known as Carabineros and Policía de Investigaciones (PDI). Public opinion has clearly swung round to supporting the police. However, only three years ago the men and women in uniform were being accused of brutality and human rights violations.
