Haiti: One of DEA’s most wanted elected to office

According to preliminary results from Haiti’s 20 November presidential and partial legislative elections, which show an outright presidential victory for Jovenel Moïse of former President Michel Martelly’s (2011-2016) Parti Haïtien Tèt Kale (PHTK) party, among those elected to the 30-member senate is Guy Philippe, who led the armed uprising in February 2004 that toppled populist former president Jean-Bertrand Aristide (1991, 1994-1996, 2001-2004). The election of Philippe, who also features on the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)’s most wanted list, is one of various security related concerns to have ensued following the election.
