Security & Strategic Review - November 2005

From three angles, visions of conflict
For once it was not Hugo Chávez who was denouncing US plans to act militarily against Venezuela. A US writer on military affairs claimed in early November that Venezuela had been included in the Pentagon's list of 'threat countries', for which 'contingency planning' had been set in motion. And it was another US analyst, writing in an opposition publication in Venezuela, who raised the prospect of another favourite Chávez scenario: conflict with Colombia arising from the spillover of that country's internal conflict.
