BOLIVIA: Progress on judicial elections but protests continue

Roadblocks remain in place on key highways around Bolivia, despite pleas by President Luis Arce’s government for demonstrators to stand down now that progress is being made towards holding overdue judicial elections. The creation of a cross-party legislative commission on 29 January may help resolve the standoff over the elections, which failed to be held as scheduled last year due to legislators’ inability to agree on a shortlist of candidates.
