VENEZUELA: Planning a snap election?

There are mounting signs that President Nicolás Maduro’s government may be planning to call an early election in Venezuela, having previously said that this would not take place until the second half of the year. Holding an election at short notice would give the opposition little time to regroup after its chosen candidate, María Corina Machado, was definitively booted out of the contest last week [WR-24-04].
