ARGENTINA: NGOs warn environmental protection under threat

Civil society organisations in Argentina launched a petition on 15 January which called for environmental legislation to be maintained, amid efforts by the government of President Javier Milei to pass sweeping plans for deregulation. Environmental campaigners warn that the proposed reforms could threaten protections such as the ‘Ley de Bosques’, an anti-deforestation law promulgated in 2007, and the ‘Ley de Glaciares’, a law promulgated in 2010.
