MEXICO: MC opts for familiar faces
Mexico’s leftist opposition Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) has positioned itself as the party of ‘the new’ in this year’s electoral race, as opposed to both the ruling left-wing Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena) and the parties in the main opposition coalition, Fuerza y Corazón por México. However, the party has recently nominated familiar faces for congressional positions, as a growing number of well-known figures previously affiliated with other parties join the MC’s ranks. This has led to questions around just how different the MC is from the ‘old politics’ it frequently repudiates.
