ECUADOR: Noboa’s popularity masks problems

Not since Ecuador’s return to democracy in 1979 has a head of state enjoyed the level of popularity of President Daniel Noboa. According to a survey published by the local pollster Cedatos on 29 February, Noboa’s approval rating stands at 81.4%. The poll’s publication coincided with the completion of Noboa’s first 100 days in power. While this is traditionally a honeymoon period, during which new presidents are given the benefit of the doubt, such resounding support is unprecedented and was underscored by a figure showing 75.6% of respondents trust in Noboa’s word.
