PANAMA: Why Hugo Torrijos went
Hugo Torrijos said that he took the decision to resign from his cousin's
campaign team after becoming involved in the corruption allegations
swirling around Pérez Balladares. Torrijos asserted that the decision to
go was entirely his, and that the PRD had asked him to stay on. He
claimed that his resignation was not an admission of guilt but simply a
confession that he did not have enough time both to fight the accusation
and run his cousin's campaign. Hugo is still involved in the PRD election
drive: he is running the campaigns for the legislative assembly, mayors
and for other elected officials.
