Martinelli stand-in wins Panamanian presidency

José Raúl Mulino, who served as interior and security minister under Panama’s right-wing former president Ricardo Martinelli (2009-2014) of Cambio Democrático (CD), won the presidential elections on 5 May. He took 34% of the vote (in what is a first-past-the-post-system) and a near 10-percentage point lead over his nearest rival.
