COLOMBIA: Petro and congress shaken by bribery allegations

A mushrooming corruption scandal is threatening to envelop Colombia’s government, the president of the senate, Iván Name, and the president of the lower chamber of congress, Andrés Calle. The controversy stems from the government’s disaster risk management unit (UNGRD), with the unit’s former deputy director, Sneyder Pinilla (2023-2024), claiming that he was instructed to pay bribes to Name and Calle in order to ensure the smooth passage through congress of the government’s reform agenda.
