Abinader re-elected with thumping majority

President Luis Abinader won re-election in the Dominican Republic at a canter on 19 May. Abinader’s ruling Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM) also secured a two-thirds majority in the senate and at least a simple majority in the lower chamber of congress. “The country has changed for good,” Abinader said in his victory speech. He is not the first Dominican head of state to have made such a claim. Does it stand up?
