PERU: Congress shields Boluarte from triple impeachment threat

Peru’s congress voted on 17 May to archive three impeachment motions against President Dina Boluarte, which accused her of obstructing justice and taking unauthorised leave to receive cosmetic surgery. The results will boost Boluarte’s hopes of remaining in office until elections are next due in 2026, but her transactional relationship with right-wing parties in congress, which is key to her political survival, is likely to deteriorate as the election approaches.
