GUATEMALA: Berger buffeted by wave of violent crime

Over 12,000 people took to the streets of Guatemala City, and thousands more nationwide, in a huge march against violence on 13 August. Carrying banners and sporting headbands emblazoned with the message 'Ya Basta!'- 'Enough is enough'- politicians, church leaders, human rights activists and relatives of numerous victims of violent crime marched through cities and towns across the country. The march in the capital was led by Sergio Morales, the head of the human rights prosecutor's office (PDH). The PDH came together with 560 civic associations to coordinate the 'Front Against Violence'.
