In brief: Chile’s economic activity breaks run of monthly declines

*Chile’s central bank (BCCh) has reported that its monthly index of economic activity (Imacec) increased by 0.1% in June 2024 compared to the same month in 2023. In seasonally adjusted terms, economic activity increased by 0.3% from May 2024 – the first monthly rise since February. The yearly result was mainly driven by the mining sector, which saw growth of 5.9%, and to a lesser extent, trade (4.3%), although this was offset by a drop in services (-1.8%). The non-mining Imacec dropped by 0.7% year-on-year but grew by 0.1% in monthly terms on seasonally adjusted figures.
