JAMAICA: Opposition resolves leadership crisis

Finally the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has resolved its internal difficulties, with Pearnel Charles withdrawing from the leadership contest for the opposition on 20 January, leaving the way clear for the party to elect Bruce Golding as its new leader - to replace the veteran Edward Seaga - at its 19-20 February annual conference. The conference had had to be postponed from November due to a court challenge by Charles over the legitimacy of the party's electoral list.
