In brief: Industrial production falls in Mexico

*Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has published the latest data for its monthly index of industrial activity (Imai), showing that industrial production decreased by 0.5% in monthly terms and by 0.3% in yearly terms in August. This compares to monthly and yearly rises of 0.2% and 0.6% respectively in July. In August, the monthly decline was driven by construction, which dropped by 3.7% as compared to July, while mining increased by 0.1%, manufacturing industries by 0.3%, and utilities (electricity generation and transmission, provision of water and gas) by 1.4%. In yearly terms, construction also registered the biggest decline, down 4.1% with mining also falling 1.3%. Manufacturing was up 0.7% year-on-year while utilities increased by 2.0%.
