*The European Council (EC) has given the green light to a trade agreement between the European Union (EU) and Colombia and Peru, and has also approved an expansion of this trade agreement to include Ecuador. The EC’s approval marks the final step in the ratification of the agreement, which was first signed with Colombia and Peru in 2012 and will be fully implemented from 1 November. As well as trade, it also covers services, intellectual property, public procurement, and human rights. An EC statement notes that “although most of the agreement has been provisionally applied since 2013, the conclusion will… [give] an increased degree of legal certainty to this trading relationship”.
