*Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has announced an investment of M$600bn (US$30.85bn) for the construction of 1m new homes – a key campaign pledge. Sheinbaum unveiled the housing and regularisation programme, explaining that the scheme aimed to provide affordable housing to vulnerable sectors of society such as single mothers, young people, indigenous people, and older people. The programme seeks the construction of at least 1m new homes during Sheinbaum’s administration, as well as the regularisation of deeds for a further 1m. Half of the new housing will be built by the national fund for workers’ housing (Infonavit), a federal government fund that provides housing-related mortgage services for workers, while the other half will be built by the national housing authority (Conavi), funded partially by the welfare financing agency (Finabien). Sheinbaum stated that the housing would be located in areas close to workplaces, amenities, and public transport links.
