In brief: Economic activity stagnates in Argentina

*Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has reported that the monthly estimate of economic activity (Emae) was up 0.2% in August as compared to the previous month but was down 3.8% year-on-year. This follows a monthly increase of 1.7% in July, when the annual rate was down 1.3%. In year-on-year terms, declines were registered in ten sectors in August including construction (-18%), wholesale, retail, & repairs (-7.9%), and manufacturing (-6.7%). Five sectors registered yearly increases with the largest in the fishing (+17.1%) and mining & quarrying (+6.0%) sectors.
