*Colombia’s Environment Minister Susana Muhamad has announced the issuance of Colombia’s first biodiversity bond for a total of US$50m. The bond, launched in partnership with the Colombian bank Davivienda and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), will be used to fund initiatives in regenerative agriculture, reforestation, and sustainable water production. Writing on social media, Muhamad said that the bond “shows that the recovery of nature is possible and financeable” and would “drive the national government’s projects to diversify the Colombian economy, with a focus on the energy transition, climate, reindustrialisation, and economic restoration”. The announcement was made at the United Nations biodiversity conference (COP16) that is being held in Cali, the capital of Colombia’s southwestern Valle del Cauca department.
