*Chile’s national statistics institute (INE) has released new figures showing that the unemployment rate in the July-September rolling quarter was 8.7% – down from 8.9% in the same period in 2023, and from the immediately preceding June-August rolling quarter, when unemployment also stood at 8.9%. In seasonally adjusted terms, unemployment was down by 0.1 percentage points compared with the previous quarter. In year-on-year terms, the INE calculated that the number of people in work had increased by 2.4% in the July-September period. The drop in unemployment was mostly driven by increased employment in commerce (+2.7%), teaching (+5.3%), and accommodation & food services (+5.4%).
