NICARAGUA: Bolaños survives Managua protests

President Enrique Bolaños resisted heavy pressure to resign in late April after thousands of university students, transport workers and unionists gathered outside the presidential palace to demand that he step down. The catalyst for the protests was a three-cent increase in the price of bus tickets in Managua, from 15 to 18 cents.
